The in-person interview is a common step in the hiring process. In fact for many recruiting leaders, it is the only job candidate evaluation conducted for frontline employee hiring. But how effective are interviews? Dan and Chip Heath, authors of Made to Stick , wrote a Fast Company column in 2009 titled, “Why It May Be Wiser to Hire People Without Meeting Them.” The article made some excellent points about the effectiveness of interviews for evaluating job candidates. With technology enabling additional methods to evaluate job candidates and the home agent model creating more virtual hiring processes, does the interview add value as a pre-hire tool? If it does, what is the right role for the interview?
